In 2016 L'Aquàrium de Barcelona made a huge investment along with Endesa (the Spanish energy company) to improve its overall energy efficiency. Endesa invited Tropical Marine Centre, and more specifically Biolumen, to share our expertise in aquatic animal lighting. Biolumen specialises in delivering biologically enhanced lighting solutions, aimed to improve animal welfare as well as offering efficiencies. Their systems favour the visual needs of the animals aswell as taking into account possible stressors. The total project was over 440 light units, all chosen to match to the specifics of each of the 66 unique habitats present.
