Wreck Fish - Melanesia

Coral Sea, and New Guinea to Central Pacific, ranging to subtropical zones of eastern Australia. A form of Pseudanthias cheirospilos that appears to represent an undescribed species. Rocky and coral reefs, adults usually in 10m depth or more, sometimes in massive schools. Nuptial males are deep purple in colour. Small males have a yellow anal fin and the entire caudal fin margin is electric blue. Juveniles and females are bright orange, the fins marginally paler or yellowish. Length to 10cm.
