Western Indian OceanWidespread Indi-West Pacific. Clear coastal to outer reefs. In dense coral habitats on shallow reef crests or slopes to a depth of about 20m. Usually occurs in small loose groups. A shy species, usually swimming amongst the protection of coral branches. Identified by the brightly colour lined pattern and the small ocellus on the caudal fin base. Length to 85mm.
